Upcoming Art Workshops

Become artFULL at Bolton Libraries

Art, crafts, stories and all sorts of creative chaos will be filling up Bolton libraries in March and April. From monster marionettes and story crafting to comic books and pop up galleries, dive in and get involved!

Saturday 18th March – Crafty Storytimes

Location: Breightmet Library
Time: 10am – 01.00pm
Age range: Children of all ages

Open to children of all ages, join us in our storytime tepee to craft a story together using lights, puppets and sound!


Exploring Art Techniques and Crafts

Thursday 23rd March – Exploring Art Techniques and Crafts

Location: Westhoughton Library (Westhoughton Art Group Exhibition)
Time: 04.00pm – 07.00pm
Age range: Suitable for adults and children of all ages

As part of Westhoughton Art Group’s exhibition, take a closer look at the techniques employed by the artists and have a go yourself!


Saturday 25th March – Finger Puppet Cabaret

Location: Little Lever Library
Time: 09.30am – 1.30pm
Age range: Suitable for children aged 4-12

Make your own puppet actors and take to the smallest stage in the world!  Together craft a story and your own finger puppet actor then act out in our mini-theatre.


Open Day: Pop up gallery

Saturday 1st April – Open Day: Pop Up Gallery

Location: Bromley Cross Library
Time: 9.00am – 12.30pm
Age range: Suitable for adults and children of all ages

It’s Open Day at Bromley Cross and all are welcome!  Enjoy refreshments, find out more about the library and create a piece of art for our pop up gallery!


MONSTER Film Making: Story Crafting

Saturday 1st April – MONSTER Film Making: 1. Story crafting

Location: High Street Library
Time: 2.00pm – 4.30pm
Age range: Suitable for children 8 years old and upwards

A MONSTER has come to town… what happens next?  Make a MONSTER film as a group then act it out with puppets on camera.  Write the story, make the props and help make the HUGE monster who has come to town.  This is a two part workshop.

Saturday 8th April – MONSTER Film Making: 2. Puppet crafting

Age range: Suitable for children 8 years old and upwards

In part two of our film making workshop we will be making puppets for the stories you wrote and filming it alongside our MONSTER co-star!


Monday 10th April – Comics and Graphic Novels: Panel Art Workshop

Location: Farnworth Library
Time: 01.00pm – 04.00pm
Age range: Suitable for all ages

Find out how comic book and graphic novel artists use panels and framing to tell their story in a way words never can.  From Manga to Batman, take an in depth look as well as create your own comic book page.

Toddler Tales: Crafty Storytimes

Age range: 5 years and below

Join us for this special Toddler Tales in our story time tepee.  Using sound, light and touch-play, this story crafting session is ideal for babies and toddlers.

It’s a party and it’s arty!  Exploring the world of art through mini-activities, this drop workshop party is a chance to find out more about the different types of art in the world and for young children to play and discover!


Textiles: Mark Making

Saturday 15th April – Textiles: Mark Making

Location: Horwich Library
Time: 11.00am –03.00pm
Age range: Suitable for adults as well as 8 years old and upwards

Hosted by textiles artist Katie Bamford, explore mark making techniques with stitch, basic fabric manipulation and embellishment.
